Heaven? No, Iowa.

Greg and I went on an honest-to-goodness vacation this week. We hopped aboard the Team Zippy bus and drove to the Western edge of the state, then we rode bikes (and the bus on occasion) across the state. In other words, we rode RAGBRAI.

Kids stayed home with a sitter, and we had a fabulous time. We forgot about work and kids for a while, which I didn't think was possible. (And now I'm singing Piano Man in my head...)

Own a piece of the amazing Leedy Estate

We're having a garage sale tomorrow. Tons of 50s and vintage stuff will go, and tons more will undoubtedly remain at day's end. Hopefully when we're done, we'll have some petty cash to blow and some room in the house, garage, shop and shed for the last of our goodies that are patiently waiting in storage. 

If you know where we live, come on over—8 a.m. to 4 p.m. It'll be a buying-and-selling extravaganza! 

Midge

2012 continues to be a terrible year for man's best friend. This post is for Midge who— according to Rich's blog—was (and shall forever be) consistently adorable. Even when the camera refused to focus.

No flag? No problem.

We can't seem to find our US flag post-move. And Nana was adamant that we have a flag flying on the house on Memorial Day. Kids to the rescue!

I heart Elvis Costello

This post has nothing to do with the house, but everything to do with great rock & roll. Greg and I saw Elvis Costello & the Imposters last night. I'd seen EC 2 or 3 times before, but this was by far the best show. Truly fantastic. Best set EVER! (Well, except that he skipped Everyday I Write the Book, but that's understandable given that he doesn't really like the song).

Highlights for me:

- He played Veronica! He never plays that. And it wasn't on the Spectacular Spinning Songbook. Such a surprising moment that I teared up. (Note that I tried to convince Greg to name our first baby Veronica after this song, but no dice.)

- He played Allison and then segued into Over the Rainbow and finally into There's a Time for Us Somewhere (please, Broadway Mafia, have mercy on me) from West Side Story. Wow. Awesome.

- I Want You played live is really spectacular any time, and he was in great form last night.

- In addition to his own stellar songbook, he covered Nick Lowe, Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash and the Beatles.

- Steve Nieve really rocked it out on a couple of songs.

- They closed it out with Peace, Love and Understanding.
