Word on the street is that our house passed its final inspection today. Need to confirm, but if true, this is FANTASTIC!

Oh, I almost forgot...

On Monday, 6 inspections passed on the first try: plumbing, gas line, electric, low voltage, framing and HVAC. Holy moly! It's been a very good week.

1-11-11

If the permits make it out of the city today, we're slated to start excavation tomorrow, which happens to be binary day. Those of you who know me know how much I love such days. I think this is a good omen. (Please let it be a good omen.)

Permits approved!

Per Portland's permit web site, we think everything has been approved. Now we can start building -- hooray!!! I think Andrew/Prutting and Co. will start work soon, perhaps Monday or even tomorrow. Go, go, go!

Shutters begone

Greg was at the house today pulling off shutters and an ugly window planter. Assuming permits are finalized next week, construction begins in earnest. Yay!

Still waiting on permits to be approved.

Next time we buy a house, rip it to shreds and build it from the ground up, we shan't apply for permits in early December. Darn those government workers and their holiday vacations.

Trees be gone

We had tree guys come and take 2 evergreen trees down yesterday. They were growing in the power lines and right in the way of the new drive we're creating from front to back yard, so they had to go. Plus we get a bunch of firewood. So it's all good.

Except for the fact that the tree guys' chipper was stuck at some other site (ice-on-road issue, if you buy that), so we currently have 2 giant trees' worth of branches in our front yard. I haven't seen it myself (as I'm afraid to do so), but needless to say, I'm sure the neighbors hope the chipper shows up today.

Oh, and on a totally unrelated note, Greg, Paul and Ryan head to the city office to try to get permits today. Good luck, boys.

Budget rationalized; project moving ahead

It's been a few weeks of budget review and "value engineering" (read: cutting things out), but now we have something that we may be able to afford building. Hooray!

Greg goes in for permits next Wednesday. Fingers crossed for quick decision making on the part of the county permit guys.
